Viral Assembly and Biological System Laboratory Collaborators
Prof. José Campos-Terán
Prof. Campos is a professor at the Autonomous Metropolitan University Campus Cuajimalpa. He is an expert on protein-protein and protein-lipid interactions. Our collaboration focuses on using model membranes to understand how Alphaviruses interact with membranes.
Prof. Christian Garcia-Sepúlveda
Prof. Garcia is a professor at the UASLP Medical School. He is the head of Human and Viral Genomic Laboratory. He is mainly interested in understanding population genetics and detecting new pathogenic viruses in Mexico and emerging viral diseases. He is part of our Zika virus project and co-PI in a project to find Bunyaviruses in wild mice.
Prof. Omar González-Ortega
Prof. González is a professor at the Chemistry Department. He is an expert in synthesizing nanoparticles and clays, bioprocesses, and protein purification. He is part of our effort to create a novel SARS-CoV-2 vaccine with Prof. Sergio Rosales-
Prof. Vanessa Labrada-Martagón
Prof. Labrada is a professor at the Science Department at UASLP. She is interested in the relationship between ecology and health. In particular, she has found that the health of wild turtles is an excellent way to understand whether an environment is healthy. Furthermore, she has found that erythrocytes nuclei of sick turtles are not “normal”. We are collaborating with her lab to further characterize these abnormalities.
Prof. Moises León-Juarez
Prof. León is a Principal Investigator at the National Institute of Perinatology (Mexico). His group is interested n Arboviruses and Respiratory viruses and their effect on pregnancy and newborns. We are collaborating to understand the ultra-structural changes caused by ZIKV in infected umbilical cord cells.
Prof. Aldo Mejía-Rodriguez
Prof. Mejía is a Principal Investigator, Professor, and Chair of the Biomedical Engineer program at the Science Department (UASLP). His group is interested in medical image processing, biomedical signal processing, and biomedical instrumentation to develop novel medical equipment.
Prof. Adriana Monsiavis-Urenda
Prof. Monsivais is a professor at the UASLP Medical School and the Molecular and Translational Medicine Section at CICSaB. She is an expert on immunology and the relationship between cardiovascular diseases and the immune response. She is part of the Zika virus neurovirulence project.
Prof. Daniel E. Noyola-Cherpitel
Prof. Noyola is a professor at the UASLP Medical School and is mainly interested in the clinical virology of viruses that have a major impact on newborns and children. In particular, he is interested in respiratory viruses and CMV. He is part of our hRSV project.
Prof. Teresita Padilla-Benavides
Prof. Padilla is an assistant professor at Wesleyan University. We are collaborating to understand how the SARS-CoV-2 3a protein alters the functionality of muscle cells. Also, we are trying to set up collaborations between both Universities.
Prof. Mildred Quintana-Ruiz
Prof. Quintana is a professor in the Science Department and head of the High-Resolution Microscopy Section at CICSaB. She is a leading expert in microscopy, nanotechnology, and its applications in engineering and biomedicine. She is the one responsible for putting together this section and pushing everyone to think big.
Prof. Margarita Rodriguez-Kessler
Prof. Rodriguez is a professor at the Science Department at UASLP. She is an expert in plant biology and its response to cellular stress. She is interested in correlating cellular stress with ultra-structural changes in the cell.
Prof. Sergio Rosales-Mendoza
Prof. Rosales is a professor in the Chemistry Department and head of the Biotechnology Section at CICSaB. He is a leading expert in the field of novel vaccines and vaccine production in algae and plants. He is part of our effort to create novel vaccines against Chikungunya, Zika, and SARS-CoV-2 viruses. Our SARS-CoV-2 projects focus on vaccines, VLP assembly, development of new reagents, and study of the assembly of SARS-CoV-2 virions.
Prof. Nadia Saderi
Prof. Saderi is a professor at the Science Department at UASLP and chair of the Biology Program. She is an expert on neurobiology. In particular, she works with animal models to understand metabolic rhythms. She is a co-PI in one of our Biology Systems multidisciplinary projects: how is the ultra-structure of the Brain-Blood-Barrier affected by different metabolic alterations.
Prof. Roberto C. Salgado-Delgado
Prof. Salgado is a professor and chair of graduate studies in the Science Department at UASLP. He is an expert in the alterations of circadian rhythms by metabolic or environmental factors. He is part of our project on the modification of the ultra-structure of the Brain-Blood-Barrier by different metabolic alterations.
Prof. Roya Zandi
Prof. Zandi is a professor of Physics in the University of California, Riverside. She is one of the leading scientists in the theoretical aspects of viral assembly and RNA packaging (among different areas in theoretical physics). We have a UC-Mexus supplementary grant to study the assembly of SARS-CoV-2 VLPs in infected cells by thin-section TEM, theory, and simulations.
